The Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) and the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) again are offering a one-day personal finance writers workshop in New York on Thursday, October 9 – before the start of the SABEW fall conference at CUNY.

This workshop is geared toward writers and bloggers, producers and editors, and broadcasters who are looking for innovative consumer finance stories they can deliver to their audience in compelling ways. We welcome journalists from all disciplines (lifestyle, features, investigative, general assignment, etc.) to this one-day informative event on personal finance issues.

The workshop will be held at Convene Times Square in midtown Manhattan.

Investment Company Institute (ICI) Senior Economist Peter Brady will explain how recent studies and analyses contradict the conventional wisdom that Americans aren’t preparing for retirement. He will also present tools and techniques that personal finance reporters can use to judge the competing claims, write knowledgably on retirement preparedness, and find valuable retirement data sources.

Chief Economics Correspondent, McClatchy Newspapers
Kevin G. Hall is chief economics correspondent for McClatchy Newspapers, a post he’s held since 2005. He returned to Washington after a long stint as the Brazil-based South America bureau chief for Knight Ridder Newspapers. During much of the 1990s, Hall worked in Mexico for the Journal of Commerce, covering the run-up to and implementation of NAFTA. He is the president of SABEW (2013-2014).
