The Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) and the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) again are offering a one-day personal finance writers workshop in New York on Thursday, October 9 – before the start of the SABEW fall conference at CUNY.

This workshop is geared toward writers and bloggers, producers and editors, and broadcasters who are looking for innovative consumer finance stories they can deliver to their audience in compelling ways. We welcome journalists from all disciplines (lifestyle, features, investigative, general assignment, etc.) to this one-day informative event on personal finance issues.

The workshop will be held at Convene Times Square in midtown Manhattan.

Lauren Young is the Money editor at Reuters.com, where she is developing personal finance, wealth management and investing coverage for professional and consumer audiences. She previously worked at BusinessWeek from 2003 to 2009, covering all aspects of personal finance. Before joining BusinessWeek in 2003, Lauren had a similar beat as a senior writer at SmartMoney. She also covered mutual funds and capital markets for Dow Jones News for three years and was a frequent contributor to The Wall Street Journal. Lauren is a recipient of the Investment Company Institute’s Award for Excellence in Personal Finance Journalism. She also received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award from Penn State’s Department of English. Lauren is a 1989 honors graduate of Penn State. She received her masters in journalism from Northwestern University in 1993. She served as the president of the Medill Club of New York City for six years and was awarded the 2003 Northwestern University Alumni Association Service Award. Young has appeared on every network morning talk show, NPR, BBC, CNN, MSNBC and numerous other media outlets. She serves on the boards of the Deadline Club, Nevus Outreach, Penn State Hillel and the Schreyer Honors College.
